The long awaited sequel to the cult game Nier (PS3/Xbox360 RPG) is out and it looks as good as it plays. I have waited so long for this game. The waiting has paid off, though, Nier:Automata is a masterpiece with some issues.

Story

If you like complex and confusing stories about humans and aliens, then this game is for you. Otherwise, this game is for you has well. Just play Nier:Automata, IT’S FANTASTIC.
You don’t need to play the previous games to enjoy this one, but there are a lot of references. I only played the Nier before Nier:Automata, and I was thrilled to see all those little details from the original Nier.

I’ve finish Nier:Automata a couple of times and I have to tell you to do the same, you won’t regret it. The story is brilliant and written by a mad man called Yoko Taro. To see the full story of the previous games and how crazy it is, just check it here

Graphics and Sound

It’s a pretty game with a small world and good diversity. The enemies are charismatic and distinctive, with an unique design. There is a bunch of hidden items throughout the world and you need to use every trick you have.

I love the soundtrack of this game, it’s perfect. The composers stayed with the source material and made some minor changes to make this different from previous games but, at the same time, part of Nier.

Mechanics

Platinum is well known to make excellent action games, from Vanquish to Metal Gear Solid Revengeance, they didn’t fail. Nier:Automata has a simple but fun combat mechanic that you will use a lot. There’s another ‘fighting’ mechanic, which you will love if you like Japanese shooters.

Repetitiveness

Travelling and combat are the only repetitive actions that you will make, but because of transport and the challenging opponents, these actions won’t bother you.

Overall

It’s seems clear that the Platinum team loved the source material and didn’t forget any details turning Nier:Automata into a masterpiece. It has all the elements from the series and gameplay at the same level of the game.

  1. How have I never heard of this? It looks pretty great judging from the images and what you’ve said in the review. I’d probably have to play ‘Nier’ first to truly appreciate it all, but hey, there’s not time like the present. Plus, I’m a sucker for a good soundtrack so it’s always great to hear when something like that is on point. Great review.
